The GlobalIPCo system completes the forms and automatically files your South African design application with the South African Designs Office (CIPC).
The official South African design application filing receipt together with your design application number will be emailed to you within one business day of payment.
You can start using your design immediately after receiving the filing receipt – there is no need to wait until registration of the design application.
Registration of your South African design
Designs are not examined. So, your design application will be granted by CIPC. In 9 months, you should receive a notice of acceptance. Instruct GlobalIPCo to publish your design application, and you will receive a scanned copy of the South African design registration certificate a few months thereafter.
Once registered, your design will prevent others from making, importing and selling similar-looking products.
That’s it! The process couldn’t be simpler.
