The GlobalIPCo system completes the forms, automatically files your South African provisional patent application with the South African Patent Office (CIPC), and sends you a Patent Pending Number within one business day.
The official South African patent application filing receipt together with your patent application number (i.e. your Patent Pending Number) will be emailed to you within one business day of payment.
You can freely use and disclose your invention and sell your “patent pending” product
worldwide. The next step is to file a complete patent application in 12 months’ time.
Registration of your South African patent
In 12 months’ time, you need to decide whether to register your patent in South Africa only or whether you wish to secure patents internationally. If you are interested in South Africa only, file a South African complete patent application. This will need to be filed by a South African registered patent attorney. However, if you wish to obtain patents internationally, file a PCT complete patent application. If a PCT patent is filed, you will need to file “national phase” patents in select countries in 30 months’ time. But, for now, all you need is a Patent Pending Number (which is what we will send you in a day or so).
