Candidate patent attorney – software developer

Are you a software developer?

Do you wish to become a patent attorney?

If so, we would love you to join our team.

You must have: a BSc in computer science. Software development experience is a bonus, but not required.

Age: You will need to be relatively young and to have few commitments if you wish to follow the patent path.

What you will need to do: It will take about 4 years to qualify as a patent attorney. However, after qualifying, you will have a very specialist and rare skill set that is in high demand worldwide. During your time as a candidate software patent attorney, you will need (in parallel) to complete:

  • a 4-year part-time LLB (law degree) via UNISA;
  • 2 years of Patent Attorney examinations; and
  • Attorney board exams ( 1 year); and
  • 3 years of law articles.

While working with us, you will be developing software and have exposure to patent searches, patent drafting and trademarks.

Starting salary: R15,000 pm
