Rolled Lasagna Pasta Patent
In 1971, Constance Vitale got caught up in the culinary rolling craze. He marvelled at sausage rolls, Swiss rolls and the next “big thing” – California rolls. He knew where destiny was tugging him, but with Italian blood flowing through his veins, his thoughts remained faithful to pasta. Instinctively, he set about spreading meat on top of a lasagna pasta sheet and rolled it into a spiral, leaving an open bore. The central bore facilitated freezing and the roll enabled portions of pasta easily to be cut for cooking – a huge patented success.
