10-times increase in South African patent and design renewal fees

South Africa will increase its patent and design renewal fees on 1 July 2019. For companies, the official renewal fee for both patents and designs will increase 10x.

Save by paying all your future patent and design renewals upfront before 24 June 2019 … at today’s rate.

How to pay renewals to term

Even if you’ve historically paid South African patent and design renewals through another firm, you can take advantage of this saving by:

• registering with the IdeaNav patent / design online renewal system;
• adding your South African patents / designs to your portfolio; and
• processing the renewals online selecting “Pay to term” (using today’s CIPC renewal fees), and making payment by credit card.

The process takes less than a couple of minutes, and will save you thousands of Rands. But, act now; there is little time to take advantage of this option.
