Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how IdeaNav (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal information when you use ideanav.co.za or our services. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are

IdeaNav is operated by Sibanda & Zantwijk (S&Z), Oaktree Corner, Johannesburg, South Africa. Our Information Officer is Anthony van Zantwijk, who can be contacted at info@ideanav.co.za.

What personal information we collect

• Information you give us: your name, company, email address, telephone number and postal address when you contact us, instruct us or use one of our online tools; and details of your patents, trademarks and designs (such as application numbers, applicant and inventor names and addresses).
• Payment information: when you pay online, your card details are entered on the payment provider’s secure page (PayFast). We do not see or store your full card details; we receive confirmation that the payment was made.
• Technical information: your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, which our web server and security software record automatically.

How we use it

• to file, prosecute and renew your patents, trademarks and designs, and to communicate with you about them;
• to send you invoices, renewal reminders and other information you have asked for;
• to keep the website secure and working properly; and
• to comply with our legal obligations, for example under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) and tax laws.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where needed to provide our services or where the law requires it, for example with:

• the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and other intellectual property offices, where details such as applicant and inventor names are published as part of the official record;
• patent and trademark firms in other countries that we instruct on your behalf;
• our payment provider (PayFast) and our IT and hosting service providers, who must keep the information confidential and secure.

Some of these recipients are outside South Africa. Where we send personal information abroad, we do so only as needed for your instruction and to recipients that are subject to adequate data-protection laws or agreements, as POPIA requires.

Cookies and third-party content

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies for security and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising (Google Ads). Pages that include YouTube videos or Google Fonts load content from Google, which may set its own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires (for example, financial records for at least 5 years). Records relating to registered intellectual property may be kept for the life of the right.

How we protect it

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, damage and unauthorised access, including encrypted (https) connections and security monitoring of our website.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us:

• whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
• to correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate, out of date or no longer needed; and
• to stop sending you marketing messages.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on this page.
