About SimTM Tech for trademarks
SimTM is trademark monitoring technology for African trademarks. It specialises in conducting trademark watching searches to identify newly published African trademarks that are phonetically similar to registered African trademarks.
SimTM monitors newly published:
- South African trademarks;
- Nigerian trademarks; and
- OAPI trademarks,
and creates:
- trademark monitoring email reports;
- webpages with historical trademark monitoring results; and
- historical trademark monitoring search reports (based on word mark and class inputs).
SimTM focusses on efficiency – it does not save reports. Instead all its reports and webpages are created in real-time. To achieve this, SimTM developed a system that encodes trademark data and compares databases of hundreds of thousands of registered trademarks with databases of tens of thousands of trademarks within a matter of seconds. This not only shortens search times, but enables real-time update of dynamic webpages on opening.

Partnering with SimTM
SimTM does not provide services to trademark owners directly. Instead, SimTM partners with law firms and trademark filing and renewal systems to enable its partners to expand their service offering to clients.
For instance, SimTM has partnered with GlobalIPCo to:
- bolster GlobalIPCo’s +35% per annum (compounded) growth in South African trademark filings over each of the past four years; and
- package trademark watching services (offered through PayAnnuity) with its trademark renewals at no additional cost, i.e.:
- South African trademark renewal cost: $49
- Nigerian trademark renewal cost: $94
- South African / Nigerian trademark watching search: Free
Instead of charging per trademark monitored or per report generated, SimTM uses its technology to create a network of law firms and system providers.
